Artfully Yours

AURORA Ð It is that time of year again. The crowds, the pressure, the stress, prayers to parking deities. This is supposed to be a happy time of year, a time to celebrate family, cheer ourselves up during the darkest part of the year and reflect on the year gone past. So, in the afterglow of the Denver Art MuseumÕs grand opening of the Hamilton Building, keep thinking out of the box. Give the gift of art.

ÒPeople think of art as something unattainable, something for collectors onlyÓ, says Kim Harrell of East End Applied Arts, Òand itÕs just not true.Ó Harrell has invited 20 artists to show their work for the Winter Festival 2006 exhibition including fourteen artists from Colorado. All the artists have been asked to create a selection of ornaments in the medium they work in for the Festival Wall Tree. ÒIt was such a great success last year, we did it again this year,Ó says Harrell. There will be art and ornaments in silver, porcelain, glass, paper, fiber and even old film slides.

Affordable artworks by porcelain artist Lynda Ladwig, glass artist Angelo Ambrosia and newcomer Karen Gilbert, a silver and glass jeweler, will be on display. To celebrate the holiday season, East End Applied Arts, along with eleven other art businesses in the East End Arts District in Aurora, are putting on a Winter Art Walk, Friday, November 17. Activities include dancing, spoken word, gallery openings and complementary bicycle driven rickshaws, Ôpedi-cabsÕ, to take art walkers throughout the 14 block district.

The Winter Festival 2006 exhibition opening reception is November 17, 5.30 Ð 9pm. The show closes January 27, 2007. For more information about the Winter Festival 2006 or the East End Arts District Winter Art Walk, please contact East End Applied Arts at 720 203 3575; www.EastEndArts.com or www.auroragov.org/artwalk.
