Adventures with Porcelain
AURORA- In an effort to move beyond her past work, Lynda Ladwig’s New Works represents a ‘brighter’ approach to her well known ceramic art. Known for her minimalist porcelain tableware, houses, and collaborative jewelry with silversmith/jewelry designer and gallery owner Kim Harrell, the upcoming show will exhibit the artist’s newest venture: color.
With a background in architectural design, Lynda Ladwig is a ceramic artist who uses porcelain to create functional and sculptural works of art. “My work is not driven by a lofty spiritual or intellectual philosophy,” Ladwig writes. “I have lines and shapes constantly tumbling around in my head. Expressing them, whether it is in building or garden design or in pottery is something I need to do.” Ladwig largely focuses on the elements form and function; therefore, the porcelain pieces are often minimalist in style. Her recent works are largely known for her subtle use of black and white decorative elements. However, in the upcoming exhibit New Works Ladwig continues to explore a more diverse palette.
Ladwig has been excited about the possibility of representing new ideas in her work. While expanding her existing forms, Ladwig additionally will be presenting new forms. These new pieces are a testament to her desire to branch out as a ceramic artist. “New Works” is a preview of work she will exhibit at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival July 3-5, 2009.
New Works opens Friday, April 10, with a public reception from 5 – 8 pm at East End Applied Arts, 1556 Florence Street in Aurora; this is part of the Second Friday events in the East End Arts District.
